West Midlands Fire Service Command Development Centre is based in Dartmouth Road, Smethwick (opposite the Brigade Training and Development Centre) The easiest access is from Junction 1 of the M5 motorway.
Incident Management training is provided for scheduled development programmes at all levels. This includes the use of Hydra and Minerva simulations to give delegates the opportunity to practise and apply decision making skills in realistic scenarios appropriate to their level of responsibilities. |
| |
| A “Safe to Ride” policy is in place which ensures that personnel who are promoted to a higher role demonstrate the command competence required using a Minerva simulation. Command Groups also have training opportunities scheduled to maintain their own competence in managing operational incidents |
| The section is involved in designing and developing strategic decision making exercises for both Local Authorities and the LRF using the Hydra format. |
| Because of restrictions on space and resources at the current site, the Command Section is programmed to be re-located at the Brigade Training Centre in 2008. This is an ideal opportunity to incorporate the lessons we have learnt in developing our existing facilities into a suitably designed Hydra/Minerva suite. |
