Fire in an engineering workshop located on a farm – involves nitrate baths

Scenario
Crews are called to a fire located within a portal framed farm building used as an engineering workshop at 9.15am on a Sunday.

Narrative:
Upon arrival crews are faced with smoke issuing from the slightly ajar front sliding doors of the building. Adjacent to this building is located a 2500ltr diesel tank and baulk LPG storage vessel.

Soon after the initial crews arrival the farmer appears and explains that the building involved is rented out to an engineering company and has no knowledge of its contents or layout. (He does have the contact details of the engineer, knowledge of surrounding farm buildings alternative water supplies and access roads).

On attendance, the engineer confirms that only 40 minutes ago he spoke to an employee who was working within the building.

The engineer has other information regarding site specific hazards and process’s but will require appropriate questioning before giving out information.
Hazards: Three phase electricity, engineering machinery and Nitrate baths.

Options::
Fire fighting operations hampered by poor water supplies
Restricted access of ALP if requested.
Persons reported.
Local boot sale affected by smoke. (Subsequent evacuation delays arrival of oncoming appliances)
