Scenario:
Vehicle fire onboard a fully loaded roll on roll off vessel which is initially wrongly reported as an engine room fire..
Narrative:
Upon arrival you are informed by the crew’s Incident Commander of fire alarms actuating indicating a fire in the engine room. The ships own BA Crews have been sent to investigate however the non English speaking captain is adamant that he requires no outside assistance.
There are 22 persons unaccounted for, these are all lorry drivers as the vessel was fully loaded ready for the ships departure. These were last seen in the accommodation block and bar area.
Ships crews confirm that the smoke in the engine room has found its way in through the engine air intake duct leading from the upper loading deck. Upon exiting they confirm that 3 containers and a tractor unit adjacent to this air intake are well alight.
The captain agrees to let you on board, but access for your crews is severely hampered by the restrictive and cramped conditions between parked vehicles.
